Current WIPs and Reads | December 2022

me to a mid-month peak at what I am reading and working on. Now, this month I will be very honestly with you. I am really dissapointing myself as a reader for various reasons, but I am looking forward to reading more in the new year. So, I am just going to be focusing on this, I will have a bunch of wonderful books to read next year. Is that not something to look forward to? I think it is. Anyway, here is what is currently going on!

My Current Reads

I am keeping this section mainly to look back at more than anything, but I am currently reading nothing. Yep, I am reading nothing at all and have not read anything all month or the few months before this. I am really hoping to turn this around in the new year as I said in the opening.

My Current WIPs

Day 7 of the Self Striping Advent Socks Toe-Up

Spinifex Socks by Helen Stewart, this year I ended up getting a 24-Stripe advent skein to make a pair of socks. I picked mine up from
Freckled Whimsy and I have been enjoying the process of working on these socks a little each day. Apart from this project I have been working on a few smaller presents for people so I don’t want to share them incase they happen to read this post.

7 Mismatched Knitted Mitered Squares Connected

I also did decide to use my scraps to make a Coziest Memories Blanket, which is going to be an ongoing project for the next few years easily. It is nice to find a way to use my left over yarn in a way that makes something that is cozy, usable, and a bit of a memory capsule of the projects I make. This blanket is made up of mitered squares each square uses different yarn so it looks almost patchwork.

Hello and welcome to my monthly digest where I discuss the books I read and hauled, crafts and crocheting I completed as well as random life stuff I did or tried. I have to say my reading was really flying this month, I read so much and I am so happy my reading mojo is back in full swing. It really has been a struggle this year and I am not quite sure why and what changed.

Some of the books read this month, sock I was working on and a blanket I finished crocheting.

Crochet & Crafting

This month I tried something new, something I didn’t think I was going to be capable of. I knitted a sock! I have never knitted before, but I signed up for a sock class and I actually did it! I didn’t think it was possible, but I did it! I am really proud of myself because for me knitting is much harder than crocheting. I think I am going to continue to knit socks or little things along with my larger crochet projects because I have found they use different muscles in the arms and hands and it gives them a break while I still get to work on stuff.

I am almost done with my poncho, I am loving how it is coming out, but it is starting to annoy me. Four hundred stitches per row! I only have 6 or 7 rows left of the body and then the little sleeves. I also started and finished a blanket that I LOVED how it came out.

As for other crafting I didn’t do to much this month, learning how to knit took up too much of my brain power. I am thrilled with that I accomplished though! Organizationally, I bagged up all of my yarn and labeled them by project so they are protected from things that love to eat yarn. But, also great for when I want to start a new project everything is easily organized and I don’t need to dig through all my skeins.

Life

I tried making a London Fog Latte for the first time. I took a recipe from Gimme Some Oven. It is a really yummy latte, I have made it quite a few times since the first one and a great one to have instead of a cup of coffee. This month I focused on relaxing mornings and then productive days. I have done a lot of cleaning and getting rid of things I don’t use. I mainly focused on the storage bins under my bed, I ended up emptying an entire one. I also deep cleaned my office and got rid of about two bags of things and was able to donate one of the bags and the other was shredding since it was paperwork. It felt good to finally tackle those projects.

Crochet Talk | May – August 2020

Hello and welcome to a post where I share a few of my most recent crochet projects. In the past I have shared quite a few updates on my projects, my most recent being my post Crochet Talk | April 2020. Since then, I have been working on a few larger projects and some fun ones that were challenging and new to me. While there were some frustrations, I had a lot of fun and I think has really helped me get better. Anyway, here are my most recently completed projects!

This is a scarf inspired by Victorian lace. I used a pattern created by LesiaLittleAdventure on etsy called Victorian Lace High Collar Crochet Pattern. I have never created anything that had such an intriquet pattern and where you can really notice a mistake. Thankfully I did well and I was able to gift this to a dear friend. I plan on making myself one in green, but I have a few things I need to get done soon.

Here is my completed temperature blanket I made for June 2019-May 2020, but I fell far behind and actually finished it on August 20th, 2020. While it took a huge amount of time, so much so that I was about to give up sewing in all the color changes, I really love how it came out!

I also made a sunflower bag, based this off of the pattern SWEET SUMMER SUNFLOWER BAG by Crochet 365 Knit Too. It was fun to make since I never made granny squares before. Between learning how to make the sunburst granny square I also had to work on sewing them all together. While it was challenging, I adore how it came out.

Crochet Talk

Hello and welcome to another post. This time around I am going to be sharing some of my more resent crochet projects. I don’t know about you, but I have a bit more time to work on my other hobbies with everything going on. I have done a few of these posts in the past, Crochet Talk | January 2020 and Crochet Projects | July 2019.

This first project I have totally completed is a baby blanket for a friend of mine having a baby in the summer, I thought since I had the time I would be proactive and finish it now. I am so thrilled how it came out, it is actually my first blanket with a border so I was a bit worried at first. This pattern was developed by Daisy Farm Crafts it is called Crochet Even Squares Baby Blanket, which you can find on their website. I really love their blanket patterns because they usually have a youtube video along with it to help. While I can get their patterns for free, I tend to buy them off their Etsy site to be ad free and support them.

Now, this second one has been a project I have been working on for about a year, but I have not touched it in about 10 months or so? I can’t fully remember the last time I worked on it, but I decided to pick it back up again. This is also another pattern by Daisy Farm Crafts. This one is called Modern Double Crochet V-Stitch Blanket, I modified this one a bit and have chosen colors that match my own room since this blanket is just for me. That is the main reason this has gone on the back burner. Since picking it back up I have added about half a foot, so I am working at a good pace. I am hoping that past me has boughten enough yarn to finish this project, but time will tell.

Crochet Talk

Hello and welcome to a non-bookish post. Having had my Operation Find Hobby Series, I found a hobby I love and I want to continue to share with everyone here. I have decided to post once a month to update you all on the projects I have finished and the ones I am working on. I know it is something different, but I love sharing these parts of my life as well and I hope you enjoy looking and reading my updates. Now, onto my current projects!

The first one is a temperature blanket I have been working on since July 2019. Pretty much each day I pick a color yarn to complete a row of the blanket. This color is determined by the temperature of the day of my location. I first mentioned this project in my post: Crochet Projects | July 2019. Here is its current state.

This second one is a swatch for a baby blanket I might me making. I think I am just going to continue this swatch and make it into a baby blanket, this pattern is created by Daisy Craft Farms, it is called the Navy Gingham Crochet Blanket Pattern. They also have a youtube channel under the same name as their shop with a lot of fun tutorials and helpful tips. Anyway, here is the swatch and possible scarf.

Crochet Projects | July 2019

So, if you were not aware, I love to crochet. I have done it for years, but this year I have really fell in love with it. I have made blankets, hats, and other goodies and I only want to keep going. I wanted to make a point of sharing more of the things I love outside of reading so I thought I would do a monthly post about my WIPs and completed projects.

In the past I shared a post called, Crochet Project | Making a “Project Bag”. I loved sharing this, but I make a lot of things and I didn’t want to overload my blog with projects. So, I figured a monthly check in would be a good balance. Let me know what you think. Anyway, here are my WIPs!

-Temperature Blanket-

So, if you are unfamiliar with a temperature blanket pretty much you have how many colors you want and you assign a temperature range to them. So, as you crochet the colors you use are determined by the temperature of the day. I tend to wait until I have a few days worth of data, but other people crochet a row a day. I started this in June, so I will finish this May 31st, 2020! Note, only June is pictured below. I will put an updated picture in the next update!

-Crochet Tarot Pouch-

So, this one I am pretty happy with, it is the first item I have ever made without a pattern. I just mashed together a few different stitches I have learned over the last year and came up with this. It is a cute little envelope pouch with a loose tie to hold it closed. I was thinking about putting on a button, but I love this boho look. I also love that this can be used for so many different things, just need to adjust the length of the starting chain.

Crochet Project | Baby Blanket Update

Hello everyone, I am coming to you today with a little bit of a bonus post. A few months ago I made a post called, Operation Find a Hobby | Making a Baby Blanket, I let everyone know my most recent crochet project. I wanted to report back in and show everyone the finished project. I just couldn’t wait until my next scheduled posting day to share.

I will openly admit that this project took A LOT of time. I worked on it at least a few hours a day for a month. It took 1 hour to 45 min to do a single row of the peach colored yarn and it took about half an hour to do three of the white colored rows. While it took a great deal of time I feel really accomplished finishing this project. It is the first one I made that was not a scarf and had a stitch outside of the single and double.

Without more rambling, here is a picture of the finished project. I am really proud at the object I create with my own two hards. It truly is satisfying to create something from a pile of yarn.

Operation Find a Hobby | Making a Baby Blanket

Long time no talk about my other hobbies! Over the course of this series, which you can read more here: Operation Find a Hobby, I explored quite a few hobbies. Since then some have stuck and others not so much. One that I did not post in that series was crochet. The reason why I had not posted about that topic is because I have previously dabbled in it, but it never stayed with me. Most of the books I was using as a reference were either confusing and my in person resources were limited.

Over the last few months I have gotten more and more into it. I made a simple scarf in December and a couple of hats for friends and my boyfriend. Now I am taking on a much larger project and it is nothing like I have done before and I wanted to share it with all of you.

So, for months I have been loving zig zag edged blankets. Something about them being irregular in a sense really appeals to me. For a while my friend and I have tried a bunch of different methods and she even asked a few people she knew who have been doing it for YEARS, DECADES actually, and still I had no luck with being able to figure out a pattern until I came across the site called Daisy Farm Crafts. I found her post called Crochet Berry Chevron Baby Blanket.

The pattern they made was exceptionally easy once I got the hang of it and I really enjoyed that there were some videos within the pattern to help you visually see the stitches when the abbreviations, which are new to me, were confusing. I would suggest you checking out their blog and seeing the patterns they have. I plan on trying more of them in the future, that is for sure.

-My Current Progress-

While I am not very far into this project, I am very proud that I have finally mastered the zig zag pattern, but also learned how to do the berry stitch. Which, for me was very overwhelming because there seems to be about 6 or 7 steps for just one. Anyway, like I said I am not far into this project, but I wanted to share with you some of the things I am working on in my life and I thought this would be a perfect addition to the Operation Find a Hobby series.
