Blogmas | Lists | My Favorite Christmas Movies

Lists

Hello and welcome to another blogmas post. Today I am going to be sharing some of my favorite Christmas movies that I love watching on Christmas Eve, which at this point is right around the corner. Since I was young I have always gotten hot cocoa on Christmas Eve, snuggled into bed and watched a few Christmas movies. It is just my own little ritual or tradition. It just puts me right in the mood to spend time with family and come together. Any who, on to the movies!

A Year Without A Santa Clause

This is my absolute go to Christmas movie. It was first aired in the 1970s, so it is quite old, but for me it really shines. With characters like Mother Nature, Heat Miser, Snow Miser, and Mrs. Clause to name a few, they couldn’t go wrong. It is also stop motion so it has a really fun look to it. One I miss with all the computer generated cartoons. This tells the story of a burnt out Santa Clause that feels like no one appreciates his hard work year after year, he decides to just take a year off since no one believes anymore. The story follows a few elves and a few friends on an adventure to prove Santa wrong.

The Santa Clause

This one also have a soft spot in my heart, it was the first Christmas movie I have ever seen in the theater. It originally played in the 1990s, It tells the story of a man who accidentally kills Santa Clause and becomes the man himself while celebrating Christmas Eve with his son. This takes them on an adventure to the North Pole and the court room. It is a comedy and Tim Allen always makes me laugh.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Now, this one is one I am very particular about, I only enjoy the one rreleased in 2000, which starred Jim Carrey. I remember when this came out and LOVING it right away. His acting and facial expressions really sold me. I also loved how they did the sets and costume designs. I remember I even had a Cindy Lou Who doll I loved this movie so much and I think it is still packed away someone safe. I will even admit I watched this movie in the middle of the summer because I loved it so much. Also, can we just talk about the adorable puppy Max? How could anyone throw him out?! The Grinch’s heart is bigger than any who, who discarded him to the top of Mount Crumpit.

Little Women

I am also very particular about this one as well, I only enjoy the 1994 movie staring Winona Ryder. The three scene I love watching and feel like Christmas to me are when their father returns home from the war, Beth gets that lovely piano, and the girls playing with Lori in the snow. It is just a heart warming story I can get lost in at Christmas and every time of the year. It is my favorite book and I just adore how it feels like a cozy home to me. Also, I will admit I have not seen the one released this year, I still don’t know if I want to. I am worried they will ruin Professor Bhaer.

Thursday 18th: Top 5 Non-Horror Halloween Movies
Which are your 5 favourite Halloween movies that aren’t horrors?

Nightmare Before Christmas

This has always been one of my favorite Halloween/Christmas movies. I think I “borrowed” it from my friend for nearly 3 years and watched it at least 100 times. I say borrow because I would return it ever weekend and then ask to borrow it again. But, the amount that I had it I pretty much owned it at that point. It has wonderful animation, great songs, and can be creepy without being scary. Also, look at the cover of the movie, does the Pumpkin King not look epic?

Halloweentown

Halloweentown is a very interesting Disney movie. As you can see from the cover it comes across as lively and bubbly. There are bright colors and grandma is smiling bright as can be. While the town is just beautiful and those who like in halloween times are just as bright and fun. Bad things start to happen, this is a wonderful movie that will get you into the spirt and excited for the holiday.

Hocus Pocus

I am pretty sure at this point Hocus Pocus is a cult classic. I mean you cannot enter into fall without hearing about the Sanderson Sisters. I really do enjoy this movie. I like that it starts with a tale from long in MA past. There is town folklore that was even created for this movie, which adds even more to the feeling of Halloween. I enjoy that there are times of humor, worry, and surprise. I also enjoy that there are more than just witches in this movie.

Tower of Terror

While Tower of Terror is not traditionally a Halloween movie, I really like watching it this time of year. It has ghosts, creepy histories, and an abandoned hotel. There are missing individuals and a party that keeps reliving the past. It has ghost investigators, but also has some good humor and can be heartfelt as well. It is a great one to watch this time of year.

Corpse Bride

This love story has amazing animation and a great atmosphere that is perfect for Halloween. It is dark and eerie. There are ghosts, talking corpses, and a few misunderstands. There is crime, murder, and a sad story. All of these aspects really make it something I gravitate towards this time of the year. Also, another bonus is the fact that it is set in the past. That always makes things more interesting to me.

Prompt:

Saturday 13th: 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days
Throughout October I’ll be aiming to watch 31 horror movies and blogging about them. The number 2 there is because this will be a weekly feature I do where I look at the horror movies I watched that week.

So I am not watching 31 horror movies this month, but I thought it would be a fun time to share 3 of my favorite ones that I have watched and rewatched over the years. Some of these are considered classics and others not so much. But, to me they are a great example of a good horror. Some are based upon ghosts and others are more of a psychological another is both of these combined. I want to add, please pay attention to the ratings of these movies. If you are younger than the recommended age, get parent permission before watching. W

The Shining directed by Stanley Kubrick

This is my all time favorite scary movie, even though I think the book is much better this movie was wonderful and it has all the things I look for in a scary movie. Ghosts, old hotels, and just the right amount of  “magic”. I have rewatched this movie many times over and it really is great. It is rated R, so make sure you are old enough to watch it.

Sleepy Hallow directed by Tim Burton

This is the first Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie I think I ever watched. I always heard about Sleepy Hallow as a legend living in the North East, but I didn’t really know the story behind it so when I watched this I really liked it. While this is an adaptation and there is a Civil War Sleepy Hallow Legend which I like a bit better. I still really love this movie it is creepy, Depp plays a very interesting man of science in a time where there is little, and the magic and ghosts are great. Once again this movie is rated R, so once again make sure you are old enough to watch it.

The Secret Window directed by David Koepp

If you are looking for soemthign that will just mess up your mind and really question what humans can do, this is the scary movie for you. This is another one I watched and rewatched and even have bought a few times because I wore out the dvd. It is a thriller that gets a bit over the time at times, but it really is made really well. This one is rated PG-13, so 13 and older.
