The Invasion of the Tearling by Johansen Erika

This book is the sequel to Claudia Gray’s beloved book Queen of the Tearling. I will not go much into what happens because it is a second in a series and I rather not spoil anything.

I will say that I loved this book so much more than the first. I loved how the book went into a two point of view that spanned two different time periods. It goes between Pre-crossing following a woman named Lily and the current world surrounding Kelsea Glynnn and her country. This book in a way turned into a cautionary tale, even though that sounds a bit crazy, when you read the book this will make a lot more sense. I think this is why I ended up enjoying this book so much more than the first in addition to building on the history of the Tear. Even though this book is the second it still builds a rich world. The ending made me so excited for the next book in the series The Fate of the Tearling, in fact I even preordered the book as soon as I closed the book.

I gave this book a 5/5 stars when the average on Goodreads is 4 on the dot out of 30,764 reviews so I am not the only one who enjoyed this book. All I have to say is GET UP AND START THIS SERIES! Especially if you enjoy science fiction & fantasy stories with a touch of old world feel rich in history and magic.

Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray

I loved the first book in this series A Thousand Piece of You, it was actually one of my favorite reads of last year so there was no doubt in my mind that I would be picking this book up and reading it.

This book continues the adventures of Marguerite Caine and her loved ones as they battle an evil corporation who is trying to control them. You see how this affects the family and Marguerite. It deals with the ethics and the emotional and physical ramifications of traveling between worlds has on the beloved characters you got to know in the first book. I do not want to go to much into the plot because it is a second book and I would like to stay away from spoiling people who want to read this.

Now there were things I really liked about this book like the very well planned connections between the worlds. Gray does an amazing job balancing and keeping a sturdy plot across universes, which I feel is difficult to do because each universe is so unpredictable. Sadly, in this sequel there was more that I did not like than liked. I didn’t like the end twist, it just seemed to over the top it seemed to be going for shock and it felt like it was only done so another book could have been written. I also thought that it could have been shorter and had the same message. I do like when books are well built and detailed, but I felt a few times within the book that I could rip out about 10 pages and I wouldn’t be missing out on anything.

While I loved this series it has become very disappointing to me personally. Now I see that some people will absolutely love this book and continue on with the series, but I will not. I ended up giving this book a 2/5 stars. On GoodReads it currently has a score of 4.2 stars out of 4,142 ratings. Sadly, it just fell to short for me. It may be because I loved the first one so much and had high expectations. Honestly, I would get this from your local library and try it out before you buy it.
