Bullet Journal | August 2019

Recs

Hello everyone! Today I am going to give you a peek inside of my August bullet journal. Like the past few months I am really inspired by plantbasedbride’s theme. This month I took from her watercolor ocean  vibe. I am really feeling the deep blues and greens, not sure why because blue is not my most favorite color, but I am going with it. I also changed up my weeklies for the first time in the last few months, I hope it works out well. Anyway, here is my bullet journal!

The image on the left I fell in love with. I did some googling and came across Let’s Make Art  she has an entire kit you can buy or you can use her print out and paint along with her if you have paints already. It is so cute and I loved how she shared her talent. As normal I have a mini calendar on the other page so I can have a quick reference for the month.

I really have been loving this new social media calendar I have been using. It really is great to be able to see everything in one place and visual see when I past because lists of dates don’t really work for me. I added a little quote with my stamp set on top of a water color water image I came across.

Here is my favorite spread of the month, my NEWTs page. I wanted to take a bit of inspiration from Book Roast and her first OWLs bullet journal tracking page. I loved the look of used roughed up parchment. On the left I printed out my desired career and put it down as a little bit of inspiration and motivation and on the right I placed the NEWTs grade I need. I didn’t write in my books from my TBR, which you can find here:___. The reason is because sometimes I don’t stick to a TBR, so I decided I would write in the book title when I read a book that meets the NEWTs requirements. I had a lot of fun doodling the castle and the fancy HP font for NEWTS.

This page is just like I have every month. It works really well for me so I don’t want to change it. I did add a bit of color to tie in the water / ocean theme. On the right I draw a physical representation in the form of spares or rectangles for the days I read a particular book. These books are color coded based upon the color that is assigned to them on the key page.

This is my new weekly spread. I decided that I did not need an hourly breakdown for the upcoming month and I didn’t want to have wasted space and waste my time making something I don’t need. I put all of the days on the left hand side and on the right I left open for notes and reminders. I did put a mini calendar on the top corner and highlight the week I am currently in. It gives me a good visual perspective as to where I am during the month.

This month I also decided to redo my blog kanban board. I found that I needed to redo the order of the steps. I find that it is best for me to write my posts first and then take the pictures. I also gave myself a little more room the blocks are larger and I left a page blank.  On the left side I decided to leave it blank to hold the tabs for the days I need to brain storm topic idea. It is a nice visual for me to see empty tabs with dates waiting for my attention.

Bullet Journal | January 2019

Recs

So this month I decided to try a new weekly layout and added a few new spreads. I am curious if I will actually be using a lot of the things I added or they end up being some pages that I doodled with high hopes. Either way, I am really digging the peach color currently so I decided to use that as my color of the month. One thing I have noticed is that I do not like to use a bunch of different colors as ascents throughout my monthly spreads. So, I am going to do my best to keep to one color a month, apart from my book tracker that depends on using different colors.

I wanted to note that I took inspiration from Boho Berry and a few different youtubers. Regrettably, my screen shots were taken on full screen view so their usernames were not in the image like I thought they would be to credit. If you know the channels please let me know, I feel awful. I thought I had their names in the screen shot, but no, I stink.

Anyway, here is my bullet journal and the new things I tried for the new year.

P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So this month instead of making an entire calendar that I don’t really end up using past setting up my weekly spreads. I decided to put in a little less effort and do a Monday start quick look on the left and a line to write what I need to write on the right hand side. This can include events, birthdays, or whatever I want.

On the left hand side I wanted to start really taking a look at my daily activity. I always feel like I don’t have time, but I think that is because I waste a lot of it. I want to sketch out my idea week day on the left and my ideal weekend day on the right in pencil. From there I want to try and follow it to the best of my ability and see if that helps me find some extra time to do something new.  On the right I am also trying a habit tracker which is something I have tried in the past and stunk at because I always kept forgetting to track my data. With this big picture addition and something I added to my weekly spread I am excited to see if I can finally be consistent.

So, this is a layout I tried out last month for the first time, I pretty much picked this up from BookandLala. I ended up loving this idea a lot more than I thought I would so I decided to bring it back again this month and I decided to drop the doodled stack of books. While, it was beautiful, it didn’t really give me the data I wanted, this on the other hand have me a lot more information about my reading habits.

Here is my December one completed for reference, one thing I learned was that I needed to carry around a few different colors of highlighter with me so I can fill this out in a more pleasing manner. I ended up having to use dots and lines, which don’t look great, but not what I prefer.

So once again on the left I have my monthly overview where I plan all of my blog posts and I put a dot on the dates that I normally schedule, those I come up with ideas first. I always end up posting more for one reason or another, but I like some consistency. On the right I have my TBR for January. I have a few idea of what books I am going to read next month, but I have not declared them just yet.

Now, I am trying a new weekly spread this month. I have no idea if it will workout for me or not, but it is worth a try. I made my daily’s a bit smaller and left room on the left and write to add tasks that are not day dependent or notes. I put a small tracker in the top left because I know I will be on this page a lot more than the monthly tracker. I figured at the end of the week I can move the data from my weekly to my monthly so I can see a bigger picture without going back and forth each day.

I don’t know if it is just the new year, but I am really excited about this months spreads and color choices. Once again I want to say have a wonderful New Year and I wish each and every one of you the best in 2019.

What bullet journal spread is you must have each month?

Wrap Up

A Week in Review | July 9th – July 15th

a week in reviewSo this past week I got to thinking of how to best share my reading. Sometimes on twitter and goodreads I update way too much, but I cannot stop myself from inputting my progress into goodreads someone because I love seeing the percentage going up. So I decided to put a poll on twitter so see what you all thought was the best way to share.

It turned out the majority of my followers preferred a weekly update, with a close second in updating only when a book is finished. So I think I am going to put a detailed update here on my blog and on Sunday I will be putting a short list of books I finished that week if I finished any at all. I figured that would be a good happy medium. When I was looking for a format for this I remembered a format I saw over on Ashley Rae’s blog, check her out and asked her permission to kind of use that as a guide, Thanks Ashley! Without more explanations, here is my Week in Review.

Books I Finished

Pet Sematary by Stephen King

Pet Sematary

5stars

This book was so much better than I remember the movie being when I was younger. I actually got angry and was yelling at the main character a few times, I was that invested. It was very raw and really drew on some aspects of human nature that I feel many of us truly fear and maybe worry about. Even though I thought this was going to take my sometime to get through I ended up ging through a majority of it in a single day.

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

The Poppy War

2stars

So, I hate to have an unpopular opinion here, but I did not like The Poppy War. If you saw my goodreads review I made it clear that I do not think this is a bad book in anyway, but it was just not for me. I am not interested in a single individual taking on an Empire/Society. I used to love books in this genre, but not so much anymore. I also read this in a buddy read and a few of us agree that if you like the first part you may not like the rest of the book, or if you find the first part undesirable, you will like the rest of the book more. I also felt that things moved so quick sometimes that things seemed too easy or parts were missing from the story.

I am Still Reading

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

NOS4A2

I have about two more weeks in this buddy read and I am really liking this book a lot. I cannot wait to get to the end of it. It is taking a lot of self control to not rush ahead of the reading schedule. I am currently 59% through this book.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Anna Karenina

I am slowly making my way through this Russian classic, I am currently at 19%. I am really surprised at how timeless the story plot really is. It also is very easy to read, the translator did an amazing job! Divider
NEXT BOOK

Clock Dance by Anne Tyler

Clock Dance

I just picked this book up on Tuesday and I am very excited to read it. This novel is this seasons pick for the #bnbookclub, I had so much fun participating in the bookclub the last round that I decided to do it again. Click the title if you would like to learn more about this book.
